A commercially-minded executive with a strong track record, Mike Tunnicliffe, GroupM’s Chief Growth & Marketing Officer, oversees major business development and revenue growth across GroupM. This includes oversight of new business and organic growth activities in GroupM agencies and the 30+ U.S.-based specialist businesses and units in the digital, content, analytics and trading spaces that are available to all GroupM clients.
His responsibilities also include global oversight of marketing, brand positioning and communications of GroupM, both as an entity and GroupM as the sum of its operating companies. His primary focus will be North America, with additional oversight of other regions including EMEA, APAC and LATAM. Since joining GroupM in 2010, Mike has been instrumental in some of the company’s largest new business wins including NBC Universal ($1 billion) and Nestle USA ($750 million), and has overseen a three-fold growth in the revenues from its specialist businesses
Prior to joining GroupM in September 2010, Mike spent the previous few years developing new businesses at the intersection between brands, technology and entertainment. Having previously held positions as a media agency CEO, global account leader for major consumer brands and Fortune 500 companies, and Chief Strategic Officer for a top five global media company, Tunnicliffe’s opinion is frequently sought to help shape the debate on innovation, brands & entertainment – and in particular, partnerships and associations between brands, entertainment properties and new platforms. His multi-faceted background comes with significant hands-on experience across multiple client sectors, having worked in many global regions with multinational clients in financial services, packaged goods, automotive, entertainment and more. He has either chaired, been a keynote speaker or panelist at leading advertising and entertainment industry conferences, including MIDEM, MUSEXPO and the Advertising Clios.
Mike is passionate about giving back and is involved in a number of cause related initiatives. He has served on the board of the leading environmental not-for-profit group Rock The Earth, was Vice Chairman of the UK-based National Advertising Benevolent Society, and is heavily involved in a group of charities that raises money for the care of terminally ill children and teenagers.
Mike lives in Manhattan with his wife, two teenage children, three dogs and collection of rock music Memorabilia and instruments. When he’s not playing or listening to music he escapes on to the waters of New York harbor and the surrounding coastline in his boat ‘Timeless’.
