Despite an RAF Special Flying Award, David Byles did not join the military after leaving school. Instead he graduated three years later with long hair and a degree in English & American Literature before starting a career in advertising.
He ran the J. Walter Thompson media operation which was the proud winner of the Media Week Agency of the year award in 1994, where upon David left for Mexico, (just in time for the peso crisis) to take up his position as Executive Media Director – Latin America for JWT.
Since 1998 David has been responsible for the creation and development of GroupM in Latin America, initially as President of Mindshare Latin America, the global media company of WPP Group. Since the acquisition of Y&R Group in 2000, David, as CEO of Mindshare and MEC (Latin America) was made responsible for the various Media Specialist companies within WPP group (GroupM), which is now comprised of Maxus, MEC, MediaCom, Mindshare, and Kinetic His current role is CEO of GroupM Latin America.
