KRISTICK NAMED GLOBAL CEO OF GROUPM ENTERTAINMENT & SPORTS PARTNERSHIPS (ESP)
NEW YORK—GroupM announced today that John Kristick, a senior sports marketing executive with nearly two decades of international experience, has been appointed Global CEO of GroupM Entertainment & Sports Partnerships (ESP), its entertainment and sports consultancy unit.
The announcement was made by GroupM Global CEO Irwin Gotlieb, who said Kristick will work with GroupM agencies and clients worldwide, building relationships between GroupM clients and major sports teams, leagues and rights holders.
“We are delighted that John has chosen to join GroupM to help us accelerate our rapidly growing capabilities in sports marketing,” Gotlieb said in making the announcement. “His level of global experience will bring a new dimension to our company’s offerings in this rapidly expanding field.”
Kristick will be based in New York and will report to Gotlieb. His appointment, a new position at GroupM, is effective immediately.
As Global CEO of GroupM ESP, Kristick will partner with GroupM ESP regional managers Bryce Townsend in North America and Mike Rich in Asia, who will continue to report to their regional leaders. Kristick will also work closely with Marcus John, Sean Jefferson, and Jeremy Clarke—the sports marketing and partnership leaders for GroupM agencies MediaCom, Mindshare, and MEC, respectively.
Before joining GroupM, Kristick most recently served as a managing director of Premier Partnerships, a nationally known sports and entertainment sales and marketing firm. Prior to that assignment he was Managing Director for the USA Bid Committee, the organization that led the United States’ bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
“I'm excited to become part of GroupM ESP,” said Kristick. “I look forward to working with major brands and rights holders around the world to create the strongest possible partnerships that recognize today's trends and deliver the sophistication that marketers and consumers demand. I look forward to working with the entire GroupM network of agencies and clients on projects that set new standards for excellence.”
Prior to his role with the Bid Committee, Kristick was based in Europe for 15 years, where he had a successful career serving as an Executive Director for Infront Sports & Media, a leading sports marketing company. There he led all marketing and sponsorship sales as well as corporate communications for the Infront Group from 2001-2006 covering all sports ranging from soccer, basketball, and multiple winter sports. In that role he worked with clients including leading federations like FIFA, several European football national associations, the International Ice Hockey Federation and other major winter sports federations. From 2006-2008, he oversaw the group’s business activities in Asia, including the re-branding, sales and marketing of the Chinese Basketball Association.
