In Ireland, GroupM is the holding company for Mindshare, MediaCom and Wavemaker with billings in excess of €170m, a staff of 168 and a blue chip client list that is the envy of the industry.
Bill began his career as a media planner/buyer with Bell Advertising in 1982. He spent the next four years getting to know the Irish media scene before moving to London to join Saatchi & Saatchi in 1986. In late 1987, Bill joined Ogilvy London as media executive. From 1991 to 1994 Bill was Press and Radio Buying Director at the network, London, the Ogilvy media company.
Bill was appointed to the board of Ogilvy, London in 1994 and remained as Media Director until 1998 when Mindshare was established in the UK. Bill assumed the role of Commercial Director at Mindshare.
In March 1999 Bill moved back to Dublin to setup the Mindshare business here. He became CEO of Mindshare Ireland when the business was established on 1st July 1999. He has since expanded his role to include CEO of GroupM the WPP media buying group incorporating Mindshare, Wavemaker and MediaCom. The business now has billings in excess of €165m per annum and employs 167 people across three separate office locations.
In his spare time Bill enjoys reading, cycling, sailing and scuba diving and spending as much time as possible with wife, three sons and his dog Misty.
Michael O Reilly
Michael is the GroupM Chief Financial Officer for Ireland, leading the finance team in all aspects of financial management and compliance activities in line with GroupM global guidelines and policy.
An experienced finance professional, Michael joined GroupM agency Mindshare in 1999 as Finance Director having previous held senior management positions in both the financial services and entertainment sectors. When GroupM launched in Ireland in 2003, Michael assumed the role of CFO working across all group agencies. His role now encompasses all financial aspects across Mindshare, MediaCom and Wavemaker.
A fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants (FCCA), Michael is also a Chartered Director (CDir) and holds an Advanced Diploma in Applied Employment Law from The Honorable Society of King’s Inn’s, Dublin.
Married with three teenage children, Michael is Chairman of the Marie Keating Foundation, a founding member of the Rotary Club of Dublin Central and also has a keen interest in music through his membership of St. Georges Brass Band.
General Manager, GroupM
Simon has over 30 years’ experience in the Media, Technology and Marketing sectors. He has spent periods of his career at Ogilvy (London), Mindshare (Dublin and London), MTV (London), floated his own AdTech business on the London Stock Exchange (AIM) and successfully led WPP’s Kinetic as EMEA CEO with 500 employees in 12 territories and $2bn in client billings under his stewardship.
Simon’s role in GroupM is to manage all the trading, ensuring that the most competitive deals are in place and these are adding value for clients and being delivered consistently and effectively while also managing the overall 46 strong GroupM team.
At the weekend Simon would love to be fishing or going to the races, instead though, he’s normally driving his three kids to Rugby, Football, Hurling or Soccer, of which he also coaches an U14 Soccer Team in Cork.
Head of Trading, GroupM
James began his career in media over 15 years ago in Universal McCann London, working as a TV buyer on the some of the UK’s biggest Telco, FMCG and Cosmetics accounts. He moved to Dublin in 2008 to help relaunch MediaCom Ireland and was part of the management team that grew the business into a top tier agency, successfully migrating across complex, multi-faceted accounts previously managed from the UK, as well as winning and retaining significant local assignments across the FMCG, Motor, Finance and Retail sectors.
In 2016, James transitioned his Head of Investment role into GroupM and took responsibility for overseeing all GroupM spend across Mindshare, MediaCom and Wavemaker to deliver the most competitive pricing and quality deals that maximise value opportunities for all clients across the group now and in the future. James’ role recently expanded to Head of Trading, working closely with some of GroupM’s largest clients and controlling the trading product delivered across all media types and all clients.
Head of Investment, GroupM
After six years working both supplier and agency side in the UK, Sam joined Mindshare Dublin in 2011 to head up a core team of local and international clients. At the time, Sam’s core skill was TV buying and this was his initial focus when he joined. Since then Sam has expanded his role outside just TV and in particular has taken on Digital trading and buying.
Four years ago, Sam moved to GroupM to concentrate on the trading and buying side of the business and brought with him a wealth of knowledge and experience across TV, Radio, Print and Digital and in the FMCG, Entertainment, Telecommunications, Finance and Automotive categories.
Sam current role at GroupM is Agency Investment Director which means he is responsible for all investment from Mindshare, MediaCom and Wavemaker and is part of the trading team that negotiates delivery and value across all GroupM expenditure.
The last few years have been busy for Sam. He got married (to the lovely Debbie), bought a house and, alongside Debbie, brought two wonderful children into the world.
Head of AV, GroupM
After graduating with an M.Sc in Advertising from DIT, Neasa was part of the media team at YoungEuroRSCG for 3 years where she learned her trade as a TV Buyer. In 2007 Neasa joined Mindshare initially as a TV Buyer. In her time with Mindshare Neasa progressed to work across very large spending TV accounts such as Kellogg’s and Danone. When the buying was separated from the planning and GroupM was established, Neasa moved with her buying team to GroupM.
Neasa is now Head of AV for GroupM, a role which has her managing a team of 15 buyers and working across both TV and TV Extend VOD. She has a wealth of knowledge and experience across all aspects of AV working with clients in FMCG, telecommunications and retail, ensuring consistency in delivering excellent campaigns. Her responsibility covers over 100 clients including Vodafone, Tesco, L’Oreal and Coca-Cola.
In her spare time, Neasa is an avid hurling fan and spends holidays touring new places on the back of a motorbike.
Chief Operating Officer, Mindshare
Ken Nolan is Mindshare Ireland’s Chief Operating Officer, responsible for the overall day-to-day management of the agency, reporting directly to CEO, Bill Kinlay. Ken manages the delivery of the company mission and values, performance measures and revenues, talent management, company structure and senior client liaison. Ken is the driver of delivering a consistently excellent product across all aspects of the company.
Ken joined Mindshare in 2008 and over his time with the company has helped build and lead the planning & client service teams within the company. Over the years Ken has built up a wide variety of experience from leading a large and diverse client portfolio across all sectors; FMCG, Financial, Consumer Durables and Retail.
Ken holds an MSC in Advertising from DIT, a MMII from the Marketing Institute of Ireland and a Bachelor of Business Degree from CIT.
Chief Operating Officer, MediaCom
With over 25 years’ experience in media, creative and technology agencies, Ed has had the privilege to work with some of the world’s largest and most ambitious brands including included P&G, Coca-Cola, Activision, CHANEL, Visa, Colgate Palmolive, BA, Dyson, Marriott and Motorola, helping them devise and execute innovative strategies across all aspects of their communications.
Before joining MediaCom Ireland in 2018, Ed was Managing Director of Isobar where he led and grew the business in Ireland. Prior to that Ed was International Chief Media Officer at DigitasLBi, Managing Director of MEC Global Solutions, Founding Partner of AnalogFolk and the first employee of i-level so Ed has an interesting blend of traditional and Digital experience in the roles that he has had.
He was voted the ‘Number One Digital Planner’ and one of the Top 10 Digital Talent by Campaign Magazine. He has also been Vice Chair of the IPA Digital Group, a member of the IPA Value for Advertising Group and Strategy Group and also a member of Google Global Agency Leadership Council.
In his spare time Ed enjoys music, cycling, skiing and spending time with his wife and three children.
Joint Managing Director, Wavemaker
David Hayes has over 30 years’ experience in the media industry. He is currently Joint Managing Director of Wavemaker. Prior to that he was Managing Director of MEC, a position he held since the launch of MEC into the Irish market in 2004. He has also worked across a wide range of full service creative agencies before setting up a media independent business in 1996. David has a diverse range of media experience across, strategy, planning and consumer insight. He spear-headed the launch of the agency’s content division in 2016 and the agency’s digital division in 2007. David is also a member of the IAPI Diversity Committee and the IAPI Education Committee.
Joint Managing Director, Wavemaker
Jonathan was appointed Joint MD of Wavemaker in 2018 after the merger of Maxus and MEC. His career in media began 16 years ago when he worked for the media arm of McConnells (MCM), which was Ireland’s largest full service agency at the time. He was appointed Managing Director of Maxus Ireland in 2010, and oversaw significant growth for the agency through a combination of local and international business wins. He has a vast amount of experience across a diverse range of categories including FMCG, Finance, Entertainment, Retail, Motors & Telecommunications. Regardless of client or category, his focus is on delivering solutions that are simple, creative, effective and efficient and that will deliver tangible benefit to their business. Jonathan has an MSc in Advertising from DIT and an MSc in Marketing Practice & B.Comm from NUI Galway.
