On Friday February 26, 2016, every employee in GroupM Asia Pacific, over 8,000 people in 16 countries, dedicated their time, energy and creativity to help those less fortunate.
On our 8th Annual Power of One Day, we celebrated coming together as one team for others in need, helping change the lives of over 30,000 people and raising over $200,000 USD. Over $1.8 million has been raised over the 8 years of hosting these Power of One Days. A synopsis of what each country has contributed during this year’s event is below.
The Singapore office spent time all week (in two shifts, 5am-9am, and 9am-1pm) at the Willing Hearts Soup Kitchen, preparing 4,500 meals for the less fortunate in Singapore. The employees helped cut vegetables, cook food and deliver the meals to the families in need.
GroupM Malaysia hosted 25 children from under privilege background and broken homes in our office. Their theme was Power of One: Our Children, Our Future. The team organised games based on the school subjects eg Bahasa Malaysia, English, Maths, Science and Art to inspire the children to study for a better future and of course to have fun!
3.Hong Kong HKD$25,000/USD4,450
GroupM Hong Kong did beach cleaning and fund raising for Food Angel, which is a NGO helping rescue surplus food to prepare meal for the needy in Hong Kong.
4.Thailand USD 2,830
More than 600 GroupM Thailand staff came together this year to encourage and create a better life for underprivileged kids and their communities.
GroupM Vietnam had a fun day raising funds for children in the community. Together with the support of employees and media partners, they managed to raise triple their target of USD12,000.
Employees of GroupM Taiwan raised more than USD11,000 for the Taiwan Catholic Foundation of Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementia Organization, and have encouraged staff to continue making small contributions.
GroupM Philippines hosted games to raise funds this year, and worked together with staff and business partners to achieve their fund goals.
8.South Korea USD5,650
In Korea, many employees donated some items which were then sold in an auction. They also prepared a walkathon activity for health and cooperation with monetary donation.
GroupM employees in Japan turned trashing cleaning into a team sport. They worked together to clean up the town where GroupM is located and contribute to a cleaner environment.
In Beijing, employees painted the walls outdoor for Orphan Primary School, while employees in Shanghai delivered a training/class in a Primary School regarding how to protect teeth by the end of March or the beginning of April. In Guangzhou, staff delivered some skills training/class in a Primary School including drawing, paper cutting, and music.
Employees in India donated blood and visited a NGO, where they arranged for some games/refreshments for children. They also contributed a day’s salary for education of underprivileged children.
This year in Tuban-Bali, GroupM Indonesia reconnect with nature through mangrove planting with Balinese children and hosting a charity day. The aim was to preserve the sea ecology for our future generation and also to educate them with environmental values.
13.Australia AUD 140,000/USD103,714
Through volunteering, donations and ticket sales, the team in Australia raised AUD140,000, for UnLtd Charities, which was double the amount raised in 2015. They also held a silent auction and raffle, and employees could choose whether they want to help through skilled volunteering, unskilled volunteering or pay-to-play events.
Kiwi employees spent the day working in the school community and have asked the Life Education Trust to suggest schools who can do with a helping hand for the day. They had a great response from about 15 schools who would like help weeding, painting, planting class gardens, painting murals etc.
GroupM Pakistan did a wonderful fund raising night called “Qawali Night by Amjad Sabri” and raised $15,000.
16.Sri Lanka USD1,875
GroupM Sri Lanka made an open invitation to all employees to come up and show their generosity by sponsoring a kids’ education on a continuous basis. So far, they have sponsored 15 kids with the help of the employees and GroupM Sri Lanka. This project will be implemented initially for a period of one year and hoping to increase the sponsorship in years to come by sponsoring many more kids.
