REINFORCES COMMITMENT TO PROTECTING ADVERTISER INTERESTS
AROUND DATA SECURITY AND PRIVACY COMPLIANCE WITH CONSUMER-FRIENDLY SOLUTIONS
NEW YORK – GroupM announced today Rachel Glasser has been appointed Director of Privacy and Partner Activation. The creation of this position supports the company’s commitment to protecting the interests of clients who work with GroupM agencies. It also reinforces the company’s position as the industry leader in advocacy and education about the governance, compliance and use of consumer data in marketing.
Glasser, who is a Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School, was promoted after a four-year tenure with GroupM agency MEC. She is responsible for providing data privacy education across GroupM agencies and clients to help them to better understand the increasingly-complex world of data privacy in a digital-driven marketplace. A key focus for Glasser is data use for online behavioral advertising and compliance with relevant privacy laws and self-regulatory guidelines. She is also tasked with the activation of key technology partnerships within digital operations, and works to ensure their performance is privacy compliant.
Collectively, these efforts will help ensure GroupM agencies and clients are compliant with legal obligations around data security and privacy, and are equipped to adapt as the marketplace changes.
“Having Rachel in this key role underscores GroupM’s leadership in the important area of data privacy,” said GroupM CEO Kelly Clark. “We are helping our clients develop innovative, data-driven marketing solutions that respect consumers’ privacy rights.”
Glasser joins the company’s New York-based privacy team led by John Montgomery, GroupM Interaction COO, North America. He is a regarded privacy expert and an active leader on the subject at the industry and government levels.
“Consumers are now always connected, and with new applications of technology come concerns regarding data collection and use for advertising purposes,” said Montgomery. “Distinguishing between data usage for online marketing from other collection and practice uses will always be a matter of education. Clarifying to consumers the difference between free web and responsible data use versus irresponsible data practices continues to be a challenge and an important point of clarification. This why we are amplifying our focus on the topic of privacy, and Rachel’s expertise will be quite valuable to our efforts,” Montgomery stated.
Glasser brings nearly 10 years of experience in digital media, paid search and social media to her role. While at MEC, she managed AT&T Mobility Retail, and has worked across multiple brands including L’Oreal Paris, The Home Depot, USPS, Guess, Bluefly.com and Subaru USA. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in politics from Brandeis University. While in law school, she focused a portion of her studies on information privacy and the law, and completed internships with the Internet Bureau at the Office of the Attorney General of the State of New York, and with the ESRB, a Safe Harbor and self-regulatory body ensuring responsible web and mobile privacy practices. In early 2015, Glasser will complete her CIPP/U.S. Privacy Certification bestowed by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). Though Glasser is admitted to the New Jersey State Bar and is licensed to practice law in New Jersey, she does not serve as counsel in her role with GroupM.
