“It’s 10pm, Do You Know Where Your Children Are?”​

This iconic catchphrase made famous by American news anchors in the late 1960s was delivered across TV sets in response to widespread urban rioting, reminding parents to keep their children indoors and safe from danger. If you’re the parent of a young media professional in Hong Kong, you know exactly where your child is most evenings (safely slouched at their desk in the office with a cold noodle takeaway) and that the only thing they’re wrestling is a brute of a PowerPoint due the next day.

Much has been said about the need for a better work-life balance in our industry, especially in agencies in the Asia-Pacific region. Having recently returned to the region to join Wavemaker’s Client Solutions team in Hong Kong, our senior management team and I have a great opportunity to treat work-life balance seriously and give it the platform it deserves, as well as taking a very deliberate stand in the way we nurture the careers of our people.
