New York & London, October 31, 2018 – GroupM, WPP’s media investment group, today announced Marc Bignell as Global Head of Trading. Based in London and reporting to Chief Investment Officer Nick Theakstone, Bignell will develop and implement innovative trading solutions that drive performance for advertisers. As most media channels become more addressable and biddable, Bignell’s broad experience in technology, data, and negotiations across markets will ensure GroupM’s buying power continues to deliver value for its clients.
Bignell brings nearly 30 years of proven experience to his new role. Before joining GroupM, he was Chief Commercial Officer at Miroma, a private company with a portfolio of media and technology companies. Prior to that role, he was Yahoo’s Vice President for Europe, Middle East and Africa. Earlier, he spent more than 20 years with Omnicom Media Group, most recently as Worldwide Chief Investment Officer.
“Marc has a track record of delivering creative commercial solutions to advertisers and media partners alike,” said Theakstone. “A talented negotiator, he is admired across the industry for his strategic and collaborative approach to deal-making. With many advertisers facing low growth markets, increased competition, and digital disruption, our agencies must deliver more value and greater efficiency for clients. This will be Marc’s focus.” (Theakstone was named GroupM’s Global Chief Investment Officer in January.)
“By a wide margin, GroupM remains the largest media investment group worldwide, so the opportunity to take a leadership role in its future success is incredibly exciting,” said Bignell. “My admiration for GroupM goes beyond its scale. I’m excited to work with Nick and the broader investment team to extend its innovation and leadership in areas like measurement, viewability, and brand safety.”
GroupM is the world’s leading media investment company responsible for more than $50B (COMvergence) in annual media investment through agencies including Mindshare, MediaCom, Wavemaker, Essence and m/SIX, as well as the outcomes-driven programmatic audience company, Xaxis. GroupM creates competitive advantage for advertisers via its worldwide organization of media experts who deliver powerful insights on consumers and media platforms, trading expertise, market-leading brand-safe media, technology solutions, addressable TV, content, sports and more.
